Magic in Toronto

Fairview Library Theatre

June 7, 1998

On Sunday June 7, 1998, The Sid Lorraine Hat and Rabbit Club (Ring 17) put on a public magic show at the Fairview Library Theatre in Toronto. The theatre itself holds over two hundred and fifty people and is complete with stage, sound system and good lighting system. There were two shows; one at four o'clock primarily for children and one at eight o'clock for adults.

Both shows were well attended by both magicians and non-magicians. Ron Guttman, who is the current president of the club acted as M.C. and performed tricks as well. Ron kept the show going very nicely and performed a very strong Newspaper Tear as his opening trick followed by a very good and entertaining Whole Thing routine with round cards.

[Later in the first act,] Ron performed a very nice and quick version of the Chinese Sticks. It is always a pleasure to see a classic trick like the Chinese Sticks done so well.

Following the intermission, Ron Guttman and his daughter Hava performed the Substitution Trunk. Both Ron and his daughter were smartly dressed and did a nice dance as a prelude to the trick.

Afterwards, Ron performed an excellent and funny rendition of the Comedy Egg Can à la Don Alan finishing with a nice balloon sculpture for his audience volunteer.

In the evening show, Ron performed two very powerful mental effects: one a book test, the other a clairvoyance effect with business cards. Ron really thinks about his pieces and it shows.

In closing the show, Ron thanked the audience, performed his original Star cutting effect, then brought back all of the performers for a well-deserved curtain call.
